Spain by the Sea!

We were SO stoked to get out of town wednesday afternoon and had a 5 hour train ride to look forward to before arriving in Cádiz. The train was even so generous as to give us each our own individually wrapped jelly bean...no not jelly beans, just one single solitary bean in its own wrapper. Even though I'm not in this picture, it had to be included just to show what I mean.
















We arrived in Cádiz and had to find a taxi to take to Caños de la Meca which is where we stayed all weekend. We got to our sweet apartment that we rented for the weekend at about 11:00pm and Sandi and I decided to take a walk around the town a little to see what it was like. Sandi liked my choice of outfit for our small excursion and had to take a picture. (The slippers are the ones that Sandi and Allyson gave to me right after falling on the stairs, and they do indeed have cats on the toes so that i "always land on my feet")





















The next morning we were able to sleep in and we got up and made ourselves a delicious breakfast. We had pancakes with all kinds of stuff to go on top. Notice in the picture that we have not only syrup, but raspberry jam, crunchy peanut butter, nutella, AND fresh strawberries, and peaches!! I think that I can honestly say that a pancake has never tasted so good!






























After breakfast we played around on the beach for a little bit, and then decided we needed to find a grocery store to get a couple more things for dinner. We asked the front desk worker at the apartments how to get to the nearest supermarket and he told us that there was a small store just around the corner but the only supermarket was about 4 miles up the road. We checked out the little store and it didn't have anything we needed so we went back to ask for more specific directions to super sol (the grocery store). He looked at us as though we were crazy to think we could be walking there and after we had convinced him we were up for the walk we were about to leave and he suggested that we hitch-hike. We looked at him as though he had just asked us to jump off of a cliff. He said it would be way better than walking and we told him it wouldn't be safe and he reassured us that it was completely safe and completely normal for this town. We smiled and nodded at him and left with not a whole lot of intention of actually doing it. Then we talked and decided we would try it and if no one picked us up within the first 3ish cars we would just walk. No one picked us up so we started walking but as a car would pass us we would stick out our thumb just to see if someone might stop and literally within 2 or 3 minutes of our walk a car slowed to a stop right ahead of us and it was a nice middle aged woman on her way to work. We couldn't have gotten luckier and she asked where we were from and then started telling us about some of the family she has in Florida. It was awesome and after a good 5 minute car ride on this road that went over a mountain to get to this store we were more than grateful to have been able to get a ride. We got the groceries that we needed then started back on the road toward the apartment again holding out our thumbs whenever a car was passing. On about car number 10 we were getting a little discouraged thinking we were going to be walking the whole way with the bags of groceries and all but then a bright blue hippie van stopped right next to us. They opened the door for us and there were 2 guys in the front seats and a girl in the back. They too were on vacation and had just come from the same grocery store. We made it back to the apartment safe and sound with a great story to share, and I can now say that I have not only hitch hiked, but done it in Spain!

Friday, Sandi and I did some exploring to go and find the lighthouse, and on the way we found a boat on the sand so we took a couple of pictures with it. We also saw these people out doing some kind of surfing. Sandi and I decided to call it kite surfing, we're not sure what it really is but it looks like a TON of fun! The lighthouse was really cool as well!
